Scribbles and Scrambles ~ The Shoes and Other Stuff

Bored Panda posted a bunch of funny parenting tweets. Ha Ha Ha. It says top 10 but goes on for pages.

http://www.boredpanda.com/best-parenting-tweets-2017/

#37 feels very much like our K...who is 6. Yesterday I went to the store with the herd. Seriously. There was a herd. We went to get tennis shoes for the 10-year-old. K wanted new shoes. One (one of) of her pair of dress shoes is getting too small. Her mother put her foot down. K even brought up the wedding she's in in November, surely she would need shoes for that. No worky.

Now, I have to admit that I'm a pushover sometimes. An easy mark. A weak link. In the store K who chose to rid in the cart suggested we go look at shoes in her size. Then pointed out certain features. When I stood firm I was dismissed. At least she's not the Queen of Hearts...I kept my head.

And bonus. Have you seen the Macklemore video with his 100 year old grandmother? 😂😂😂 http://www.boredpanda.com/music-video-100-year-grandma-birthday-macklemore/

Serials and Scenarios ~ An Official Review Post

Blogger Sarah invited Michelle and I to hang out with her twice. Then she mentioned she'd like to read Out of the Frying Pan. I sent her a copy and she posted about us again. Here it is.

And completely unrelated is my Modern Day Mishap post.

I really can't share more than the fact that my life is just weird and I find pockets of hysterical laughter in the oddest places sometimes. Like this morning when my daughter tagged me in a video showing a short grandma falling into a crib. I wept laughed. Should I share it here? Okay.

Scribbles and Scrambles ~ I Shoulda Been a Writer...

The blog tour mania has left me a little bit worded out. How strange. That never happens. Right now I'm soaking in the fumes of varnish and so glad I wore gloves when staining so I don't have filthy fingernails. The dogs are wrestling on the newly carpeted stairs and I'm gearing up for a full 5 Day Grandma gig. Ha. Maybe that's why I'm speechless.

A little funny which I will go into more of later at Modern Day Mishaps or elsewhere. My boss doesn't like to share his bathroom. But because he's only one lone discontented man and there are 13 others -- 12 of those women -- he pretty much has to. So he asked me to put up a sign in his bathroom spelling our the rules.

I can not put up a sign that just states the facts. So I put up one that was snarky and sarcastic and pretty amusing to me.

He came to me later. "That was hysterical he said. I was so impressed with your use of flotsam. You just don't see that word very often." I laughed and thought to myself. "He paid me to mess around at work and entertain myself. Jokes on him." Then he said. "You really are in the wrong career because you could be making 10 times what you are making now if you wrote for a show or something."

I laughed even harder. Hello! I've blogged for years. I tweet an occasional show stopper, I have two cute dogs and two cute hedgehogs who have yet to have gone viral. Oh, and I just had a book published. I'm pretty sure my talent isn't going to be "moving me on up" any time soon.

Oh, sweet mercy. I just said. "Thanks! Glad you liked your sign."

Scribbles and Scrambles ~ Blonde Happens

I've never been a blonde. Ever. Okay. I did do the lemon juice combed through the hair highlights experiment one summer. And one time with the product in the late 70's that gave "perfect sun kissed highlights." But that's it. And the highlights were NOT blonde.

But a blonde virus swept through my office a few weeks ago and I succumbed. Here's the story.

Serials and Scenarios ~ Another Day, Another Blog Tour!

Goodness. Things will slow down a little. I had four right on top of each other.

Stitches Thru Time asked for an article so I provided a foodie bent one. Zula is claiming the recipes as hers and that's just fine and dandy.

Highlights of the weekend bookwise?

Finding out we were in the Top 100 Amazon inspirational e-books. Now, I don't want to brag but being number 28 and currently beating TWO of Karen Kingsbury's books is pretty exciting for me...

Getting a copy in the mail, finally. So I was able to hold my book.

My cute baby grandson holding the kindle version!!!

First autograph!! Autographing my mom's copy. That seems only right since a) birthed me b) supported the crap outta me in my early writing years!

Getting a "YOU DID IT" proud of you card from my brother and his lovely family!

Having a friend order her copy on her phone right in front of me after church and teasing me about being famous the whole time.

Highlights of the weekend? Family dinner last night! I love my famtastics!!!! Laughter is the song of my people and it does a soul good!

Electrical being placed in my new bedroom. All rooms but my current bedroom's content moved to my current bedroom and I have plenty of room to walk. That's huge. We had three bedrooms full of stuff. Now it's manageable and most of it has places to go in our new "Wing" I'm going to call our section of the house the Lower East Wing. LEW for short. Ha. Ha. Ha. And we purchased the flooring and the new windows and a bit of drywall was nailed into place. Reconfiguring a doorway so that other things can happen. Hopefully cleaning a two-story house for next to the last time. I now will be fully responsible for three rooms and halfway responsible for two. I LIKE IT!

Giving tours of LEW.

Serials and Scenarios ~ Epic Stumbling

I've reached the portion in this blog tour and book marketing mayhem where I feel like I am on an extended stumble. Not that I would ever attempt to wear those shoes or be invited on the cat walk. But the losing it, attempting to regain my balance and bam! I get that. I also get losing it like the anchors. Been there, done that, just never on television!

After you are through laughing at this snippet, brace yourselves. I'm going to be posting two and three places a day where you can find us on our blog tour. Watch your step!

Scribbles and Scrambles ~ Something to Laugh At.. Don't Judge Me

I love cats and their attitudes. I found link in my inbox so I had to click on it. Felines of New York. Little glimpses into the lives of cats in the Big Apple. How could anything be any more amusing than a cat with a New York attitude?

Warning. Some of the kitties have potty mouths.

Scribbles and Scrambles ~ Snow Day

Gladys is NOT Amused
With our "blizzard" aka 6 inches of snow and blow we had a snow day at the local schools. Including our kids.

& had to work so I offered to take the kids for the afternoon.

Here are the high points:

Three bags came in with the kids. Outdoor fun was number one on the list. So even though their mother told them no less than 4 times to go potty, nobody had to go.

Locked and loaded we headed out for our adventure. The 2 older kids found a huge pile of snow and commenced trouncing in it.

The lil one discovered that the pups enjoyed knocking her feet out from underneath her. Right as mom was driving down the road Lil buffed it face first. Ugh! I prepped to hear the high pitched keening of injury and for triage. But she laughed. Oh, sweet mercy we skated past that one.

One of the older ones screamed and raised a sock foot in the air. I pulled a boot from the snow bank and replaced it on the foot. We headed down to softer ground and I heard. "Let's get this started." And glanced over to see a huge 8 inch ice chunk headed toward my head. Nailed it! She clocked me in my left temple. That girl has arm. With birdies and stars swirling and dancing round my head, I explained that ice balls are not what we throw in a snowball fight. Two more boot in snow issues and some peaceful calm while 3 kids made snow angels and 4 dogs pounced and played.

Then the little bit decided she wanted to go in. I suggested other things to do. She looked up at me with her little hat all dusted in snow and 2 gooey nose tracks trickling toward her mouth. "I'm cold." Then the middle one tore over to me with matching nose goo.

"Okay, I'm going to take the little ones in because they are cold. You can play in the backyard with the dogs." I said to the oldest.

"I have to go pee."

Time spent outdoors? Fifteen minutes.

Story potential? Limitless.

Scribbles and Scrambles ~ Bake-A-Fun

My weekend agenda included an epic baking marathon.

We made Crack Bars and Vegan Butterfingers and mint meltaways and Gooey Pecan Bars

And then we just went off the road and started looking through cookbooks and on line for more recipes to make. Whoopie Pies ended up being perfect. Pecan Brittle ended up becoming Turtle balls dipped in chocolate due to bit too short in the boiling department. The fail I couldn't save was Chocolate Crinkle cookies. See photo. This dough was to chill for 8 hours. Well, we didn't have that so it got 3.

I held the flattened solid sheet of cookies up and asked & if she wanted an 8 x 11 sheet of cookies for any gifts. Then we laughed like maniacs because we had entered the cookie mania phase and had consumed a few morsels of sugar.

Scribbles and Scrambles ~ Weekend Update

I made three pies for my brother's upcoming wedding on Saturday. Yay. Only a few cakes left to go.

We went to another wedding on Saturday. I read that 2013's biggest wedding month was September. I'm guessing the same holds true for 2014 and that September and October might be competing with the traditional May/June.

Other notable? Gertrude and Gladys turned 5 months old on Saturday. How fun is that? And speaking of fun let's look at a comparison shot or two. Note: tiny puppy was Gladys, big honkin puppy is Gertrude. Gladys was having nothing to do with the photo session.

After the photo shoot I had to take a shower and while I was showering some four-legged scoundrel took an extra roll of toilet paper and the two little fur-buddies had a blast.

Scribbles and Scrambles ~ Pup Videos

Ignore the Creepy GOLLUM baby talk... I was caught up in the cuteness. That voice is forever banished from all future videos. I promise.

Scribbles and Scrambles ~ A Picture Paints a Whole Lot of Words.

Kansas City restaurant outside wall. Don't know what it's called but every time we've gone to Cafe Gratitude this little happy tot greets us. How can it not be great? She thinks it is.

Sad Sushi. Ha Ha. My friend Lindsey snapped a picture of this guy before she snarfed him down. It shouldn't make me happy but it does. Sad Sushi. Ha Ha.
Uhhhh. Not sure what this horrible contraption is. We saw it at an antique store and paused just long enough to take a picture. The string? Dental floss. "Hey kid, floss your teeth or I'll haunt your dreams!" Maybe the purpose was to tie the string on a loose tooth and throw the cast iron clown head over the railing thus removing the tooth. (Again, dream haunting for those who disobeyed.) The purpose can't be sweet, whimsical or happy. Right? Shudder.
